My agency currently represents Horace Mann Insurance company. As a part of Horace Mann, I focus on helping protect educators with insurance products for vehicles, homes, life, and retirement products. I support schools by providing staff appreciation programs, student loan forgiveness assistance, retirement workshops, and spoiling them with lunches and snacks.
Website URL: The Hansen Insurance Agency
As my agency grows I will need office staff for answering phones, handling client requests, appointment scheduling, and filing. In the future, I will also be looking for an insurance producer. That position requires an insurance license and would put together and present quotes, work with the underwriters to make sure each policy is processed with all needed information.
I would look for strong skills in the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint are the most used) as well as basic computer skills. Experience speaking with clients on the phone and in-person is very helpful. Because social media is a part of most marketing programs, understanding Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram is a plus. Understanding basic office equipment, filing systems and processes is important. Much of this training could be obtained by working in your school office or as a teacher's assistant.
Due to background check requirements, I am unable to provide job shadows. Internships would be a possibility in the future.
If you want to work in any service industry (where you take care of people) remember that it is NOT about you making money. You are there to serve others to the best of your abilities. If you put the needs of your customers first, success will follow. Be open to learning new things and asking questions. None of us know everything. Asking for help is a strength.
